Aaaaa-chooooooo! 13 Tips To Help You Stay Healthy

13 Great Tips to Help You Stay Healthy This Winter #flu #cold #healthyBeing an oilfield wife means we don’t get the luxury of crawling into bed when we’re sick and staying there until we’re well. Okay, who am I kidding, if ¬†you’re a woman, you don’t get that luxury! As women, we are caretakers, and that means that when we get sick, we suck it up and carry on.

Here are 13 great tips to help you stay healthy this winter:

  1. Keep your hands clean!! Really wash them with soap and warm for at least 20 seconds for best results.
  2. Lay off the smokes – smoking increases your risk of catching a cold, and make it harder to recover.
  3. Avoid rubbing your eyes.
  4. Get a flu shot. Yeah, it might seem too late, but it’s not. Get one!
  5. Eat healthfully.
  6. Exercise.
  7. Be happy. Avoiding stress keeps your immune system strong!

If you do happen to get bit by the flu bug this winter, here are some things you can do to help ease your symptoms:

  1. Drink plenty of water! Staying hydrated loosens congestions, and aids against dehydration.
  2. Rest. Grab a seat when you can, rest your eyes, and by all means lie down if you can. That load of laundry can wait, and the kids won’t die if they eat sandwiches again.
  3. Gargle with salt water. Yes, it really works to draw up excess fluid and soothe a sore throat!
  4. Use a saline nasal spray or wash. It keeps your nasal passages clear and moist.
  5. Eat chicken noodle soup. It’s good for your soul, but also help with congestion, inflammation, and hydration.
  6. Warm herbal teas with honey and lemon are also very soothing and a great way to hydrate.

If you’re still feeling really bad and running a fever after a full week, get your rear end to the doctor! Even the flu shouldn’t hang around that long.

Stay healthy and strong, ladies! Our families are counting on us!
