My (Ever-Changing) Top Ten Favorite Things

fave things picThis is my version of Oprah’s favorite things – a list of new products, home remedies, and wonderful goodies that every ROW should know about.

(Please comment about your favorite things!! I’ll do this on a semi-regular basis and I’d love to use your ideas on the next post.)

10. Muller Yogurt. This is my latest craze. I like the “Frutup” strawberry flavor, and my kids prefer the “Muller Corner” better, but they are all YUM.  If you haven’t tried it yet – you totally should!

9. White Vinegar. It has so many uses! Who knew?! Having a gallon in your pantry is a must in every oilfield household. I use it to clean the coffee maker, rinse fresh fruit, remove hard water stains, wash windows, keep blue jeans from fading, clean my front loader washing machine…….and this list goes on. Is there anything this stuff can’t do? It is amazing.

8. Express Dry fingernail polish. It comes in tons of fun colors and it seriously dries in a minute –  and let’s face it, what OW has time to sit around and wait 15 minutes for their nails to dry?

7. Suave Moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner. Fantastic! The fragrance is  spectacular, and it makes my hair as nice as the twenty dollar stuff.

6. Gymboree. I’m a huge Gymboree fan. (I like kid’s clothing that actually looks like clothing for kids.) I count down the days to GymBucks.  My family photo albums look like Gymboree catalogs. They have the absolute cutest styles and great quality clothing that really hold up to wear and tear (even to rough and tumble oilfield kids).
However, both of my kids are too old for the little cutesy animal hats and matching socks now.
~sniff sniff~  I miss those days.

5. Glade scented candles. What a great find!! They are affordable and come in a wide variety, including seasonal scents. They are super-duper smelly..…in a good way.

4. Sea Sponge. Using a real sponge in the shower is durable, soft, and exfoliating all at the same time. Thanks to my MIL and fellow ROW, I will never use a plastic louffa again. Natural is better!

3. Cucumber water. Love it. It’s supposed to be a great fat zapper, energy booster, and cleanse – but really I just like the refreshing flavor. With or without lemons. You can also throw lime and/or mint in there, too. (I’m not too keen on the fresh mint leaves, but I’ve been drinking so much of it lately that  they’re starting to grow on me….not literally.)

2. Deep Woods Off brand dry mosquito repellent spray. Since we live in AK where the population is one trillion mosquitoes for every one person, finding a good repellent is vital.  This one is the best we’ve found so far. It works well, and it’s not sticky or greasy.

1. Danskos & Sanitas. I think these shoes are an Alaskan thing, at least I’d never seen them until moving up. I have to admit, I have seen a few homely, clunky designs of these clog based shoes, but there are also numerous wonderfully cute and trendy styles. I have a pair of both Sanitas and Danskos (I don’t have a favorite brand out of the two, they seem the same to me – – although I know there is controversy out there on which is better).  Even my daughter has a darling pair of hot pink Dansko MaryJanes. What northern oilfield wife’s wardrobe would be complete without a pair of Danskos and an Alaska Chicks sweatshirt?

So, that sums up my Top Ten Favorite things, at least for today. Tomorrow it will probably change….

About jenna

Jenna has been an oilfield wife for over 12 years. Her Hot Oil Man husband started working in the oilfield a few months before they were married. The oilfield has lead them all the way from Northern CO to Alaska, where they've lived in the Matanuska Valley for 4 years. The family consists of their two children; a strong-willed daughter age 10, and a goofy son age 7. And of course what family would be complete without a couple of dogs and rabbits thrown in the mix. Jenna is a stay at home mom who doesn't “stay at home” much, and enjoys gardening, baking, reading, watching movies, four wheeling, hiking, fishing, and LOVES shopping. Since moving to the last frontier they have also started home schooling, which is another adventure all it’s own.
