A Simple Fall Bucket List

Here I go again with this autumn ‘stuff.’ There are some hilarious memes out there, making fun of how fall is every white girl’s favorite season; maybe it’s true! But it really is the most wonderful time of the year, to me. The crunch of the leaves under my feet, the perfect temperatures, and all the family-centered fun. In our house, it also means football!

Having a toddler makes me love this time of year even more, so I thought I’d create a short bucket list of things I’d like to do with our little family this season. And you certainly don’t need kids to have a blast doing these activities!

  1. Trick-or-treat
  2. Go apple picking
  3. Make apple stamp art
  4. Visit a local farm or homestead
  5. Make homemade butternut squash soup
  6. Go on a fall hike in the mountains
  7. Make butterbeer (Most available recipes are ‘virgin,’ so the kids can enjoy a mug too!)
  8. Collect leaves
  9. Decorate and/or carve pumpkins
  10. Have family pictures taken
  11. Watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”
  12. Go pumpkin picking (The feature photo was taken in 2011.)
  13. Make leaf prints
  14. Do a corn maze
  15. Bake a pie from scratch
  16. Go on a hay ride (or, take lots of pictures of Tim taking Maile on a hay ride, since I’m wildly allergic)
  17. Donate to a food bank
  18. Enjoy some homemade apple cider
  19. Host a BBQ for football one Sunday
  20. Give thanks

A little tip: I’ve learned that seasonal bucket lists are best kept simple: items doable within your locale, budget, and — perhaps most importantly — the amount of free time you can make!

About Katie

Katie lives in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado, where she raises her sweet daughter, Maile, who just turned two! Katie has been married to the love of her life for going on 6 years; every one of those years as a roughneck wife. The family also includes two spaniels, a very persnickety old cat, and two aquatic frogs. Katie spends most of her time reading books with her little one, going down the slide at the park 10,000 times, painting and playing pretend, and dreaming of growing all her own food.
