Staple Pieces For Every Oilfield Wife

Standing in line at the grocery store lately, I cannot help but notice all the adorable new fall fashions plastering the cover of every magazine. This year, I love the rich plums, shades of rusty orange, and my newest favorite flannel! Season and style are obvious contributing factors to my closet, but being a working oilfield wife and mom, it is important to me to have pieces in my wardrobe that can easily transition from business professional, to grocery store casual, or even toddler gymnastics class comfy. I cannot tell you all the number of times I have layered, de-layered, or completely changed my outfit all together, and in my car!

For fall and winter, my number one staple of clothing is riding boots. I LOVE RIDING BOOTS. I don’t care the color, the material, or even the brand, they all rock! For work I wear my riding boots with tights and a sweater dress. On weekends or just out and about I live for riding boots paired with jeans, or even leggings. They seriously go with anything and you can get them just about anywhere from Payless to Nordstrom!

This will come as a no brainer but skinny jeans fall in the number two slot when it comes to my fall/ winter must haves. Of course I’ve come to hoard every color of skinnies I come in contact with, but really a good pair of dark denim and/ or good pair of black skinny jeans are all you need. You can dress them up with heels or ankle boots, or dress them down with UGGS or flats, either way it’s a win. My two favorite places to get my own skinnies are Target; yes I said Target, and H&M which even has online ordering now!

Scarves are a no brainer for fall and winter in Colorado which is why Infinity scarves are my number three staple every girl needs. Again like the jeans, the colors and patterns are endless, but one of the hottest trends this year is animal print. If you had to have just one infinity scarf, leopard gets my vote! Again paired with a black suit at work, a white tee on the weekends or a messy bun running to the store for coffee creamer, you always look put together with this piece!

Any kind of Denim top is my number four staple for all of us! Jean jackets are an absolute must for every season so that one is a no brainer, but denim vests and button down tops are super trendy this year. I recently just purchased two button down denim tops from Old Navy, one I purchased oversized and the other I bought to be more fitted. The oversized, lighter denim top, I wear loosely with black leggings and of course my riding boots. A more fitted denim top looks adorable tied in front and work with colored jeans.

A solid white thermal is also a must this season. Granted black is always awesome and even charcoal grey, but white thermals go great under classic cable knit sweaters at work. These tops also pair perfectly on weekends under flannel tops or under your favorite football jersey on game. Any solid color of thermal is with a doubt a key staple this season.

The list of trends really seems endless, but I always just pick and choose what works best for me, my body type, my life style, and obviously my budget. No matter what I’m wearing, I love to “dress up” with chandelier earrings and eye liner, and I like to dress down with a messy pony tail and nude lip gloss.
