Irritated Oilfield Mom

I’m grumpy and really irritable lately. I don’t know if it’s because my husband worked an extra week on his most recent hitch, or if the 24 hour daylight (and less sleep) is making me cranky, or if I’m PMSing, or if I’m just getting grouchy in my old age. But whatever the reason – I am grumpy, and I have been noticing a lot of things that people do that really annoy me. Here’s 9 things that people do that I can’t stand.

grumpy mom

People annoy me when…..

1. they let their 2 year old play on their phone – at the park.
This bothers me more than the mom being on her phone at the park.  Why are you even at the park if you are not going to play with your kid? And if you aren’t going to play with them- at least have THEM go play.

2. they stand in line at the post office/bank/ Dr etc talking (loudly) on their phone right in front of the sign that says, “Please be courteous to others and finish phone calls before entering the line”.
I guess that rules applies to everyone BUT them. No one wants to hear your phone call. For real.

3. they let their dogs run loose.
This drives me nuts. We can hardly go for walks anymore due to all the loose dogs running around. Granted, this is Alaska so not everyone has perfectly manicured and fenced yards like in suburbia, but that shouldn’t change the fact that pets need to be kept on their own property – for their safety and the safety of passers-by.

4. they talk during movies.
It’s one thing to do that in your own home, but when I paid $30 for my family to see a movie at the theater and another $40 on snacks, I don’t want to hear you flapping your mouth the whole time. That goes for you and your kid. Be quiet!!

5. they have fights on Facebook.
This is so ridiculous. I refuse to have a facebook fight no matter how rude or passive aggressive someone gets. It’s not real life people!!! Can’t we all get along, at least in fakebook land if not in the real world??

6. they don’t tell you when you have a booger/ smudge on your face/tiolet paper on your shoe.
I got home from town once and looked in the mirror, only to be horrified at the black smudges all over my face. Yes, it might be a little embarrassing for you to tell me – but it’s more embarrassing for me to go around looking like an idiot. After that day I vowed to ALWAYS tell someone when they are not put together right. So have no fear, if you are hanging out with me, I WILL let you know when your zipper is down.  I think it’s a common courtesy.

7. they cut in line.
What is this, 2nd grade? You saw me get here before you. The nerve of some people.

8. they use foul language in public….in front of kids.
So lame. In case you were wondering, it isn’t cool and  it makes you look like a complete fool.  The ignorance of some people is unbelievable.

9. they don’t  know how to do their jobs….primarily in  customer service.
I could go on and on about this one. I got home from running errands one day and I was completely worn out because I felt like I had been doing everyone’s job everywhere I went – the girl at the bank didn’t know what she was doing and I had to figure it out, the cashier at the grocery store messed up and I had to help (after bagging my own groceries of course), the customer service rep  at Walmart didn’t know how to do a return….seriously!! Isn’t there any job training anymore!?

Sorry to complain.  I know there’s lots of good people in the world  – and I love ya! Sometimes I just get worn down from dealing with the less than desirable ones.
A little common courtesy and common sense goes a LONG way these days!

About jenna

Jenna has been an oilfield wife for over 12 years. Her Hot Oil Man husband started working in the oilfield a few months before they were married. The oilfield has lead them all the way from Northern CO to Alaska, where they've lived in the Matanuska Valley for 4 years. The family consists of their two children; a strong-willed daughter age 10, and a goofy son age 7. And of course what family would be complete without a couple of dogs and rabbits thrown in the mix. Jenna is a stay at home mom who doesn't “stay at home” much, and enjoys gardening, baking, reading, watching movies, four wheeling, hiking, fishing, and LOVES shopping. Since moving to the last frontier they have also started home schooling, which is another adventure all it’s own.

  1. They go in through the out door, vice versa. I may or may not purposely block their way.

  2. I hate the phone thing, too. Kids are always on phones! They don’t even no how to play anymore.
