My Girls

My Girls #oilfieldwivesThere is nothing like spending quality time with my husband. There is no doubt that him being away on hitches truly helps us appreciate our time together so much more! Sometimes it is hard to reconnect after 15 days away from one another. Other times we reconnect like we haven’t missed a beat! Either way, when we’re together, we’re home.

So, what do I do when I’m not spending quality time with my husband? I spend quality time with my girls, of course! There seems to be an unspoken understanding that when my oilfield man is home my time is mostly devoted to him (unless there is something super important I can’t miss, and he understands that too). This doesn’t mean I blow my girls completely off when he’s home either. I try to give him some alone time to do whatever he’d like to do, which, in turn, gives me time to do what I’d like to do. It’s our system. It works for us!

Who exactly are these amazing women I speak of? They are my closest friends. My family. Some I’ve known a lifetime, others I’ve never met in person (that’s right. Never. But I hope to one day!). All are a blessing and I can’t imagine my life without them in it! They include, but are not limited to:

My daughter. She’s incredible not just because she’s my daughter, but because she’s her! I spend every waking second of every day with her, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! She makes me laugh. She makes me cry. She amazes me with the new things she does. We learn, laugh, and play together. We make crafts and cookies. We read books and sing songs. She’s my greatest joy in life! We look forward to our phone calls with daddy, and count down the days until his return to us. As long as I’ve got her, I’ve got everything!

My mom. My mom is equally as incredible! We spend a lot of time together while my husband is away, and I enjoy it every time! We talk every morning and every evening. We shop, cook, and watch movies together. Sometimes she’ll spend the night here with us just so we have some much needed company. She will run errands for me so I don’t have to take the baby out in the brutal cold alone. She brings me sushi (my husband hates sushi) and hot coffee. We have a TON of fun! Mom is always there for me no matter what, and I know she’ll always be up for a good time when I’m feeling down. She helps me with everything, and I can’t thank her enough for everything she does!!

My future sister-in-law (I prefer just my future sister). We always have so much fun together! She’s an oilfield fiancé herself, so she knows what the loneliness is all about. When we aren’t wedding planning (can’t wait!) we are relaxing in our matching pajamas making new Pinterest recipes. Doesn’t get any better than that!

My local friends. I don’t know what I’d do without my friends close to home! We get together for dinners and girl chats. We vent and let go of all of our frustrations. It’s so much better than any therapy out there! There is a reason I melt into them the way I melt into my husband’s arms. They’re my family too, and I’m thankful for their constant support, understanding, friendship, and love!

My online friends. Some of the best friends of my life I haven’t even hugged in person (what I wouldn’t give to do so!). Some of them are moms. We support each other, encourage each other, and always offer the best advice on all aspects of life. I talk to them several times throughout the day and I look forward to checking in with them to see how their days are going. Some of them are fellow oilfield wives. Again, we support each other through this journey. We laugh, we cry, we worry, we vent, we celebrate….always together. We understand one another without even saying a word! I don’t know what I would do without these truly amazing women! I thank them for being part of my life and allowing me to be part of theirs although we have yet to meet!

I have SO many people in my life to be thankful for! They always know what to say and what to do if and when I need them! There are so many of them I could list, but we’d all be here for a very, very long time! I hope they know who they all are and just how much they mean to me! If I could tell them one thing, all of them, it would be: I’d be lost without you. I wouldn’t be who I am, as strong as I am, without you. You’re forever part of me, and I love you all dearly! Here’s to my girls!

Who helps you make it through the rough days? Feel free to shout out to the ones who mean the world to you!
