About LC

Howdy! LC and her Oilman live in the ‘burbs north of Austin, TX. She is a real estate broker, but you won’t find her face on a bus bench and she doesn't drive a Cadillac. Oilman works in Texas as a Completions Consultant. Don’t worry, most people don’t know what that title means either. LC calls him frac guru, for short. She may be the only woman in America that hated both "Twilight" AND "50 Shades of Grey". Oilman and LC like wine, good music, their two dogs, and cervezas in Central America. Good-bye!

After almost a year and a half of writing for ROW, it is time for me to say good-bye.  In my last post I shared that we were taking the leap and starting a business with Oilman back home.  It is the beginning of a new season for us. I started writing for the Real […]

Is It Time to Walk Away from Oilfield Life?

It felt very weirdly normal and expected as it all went down.  Looking back on it, I’m still a little bit amazed at how it happened. Oilman sat in the church pew as our pastor talked about loving your job.  In that moment, Oilman felt like it was time for him to come home.  He […]

What a Child Remembers When Dad Travels for Work

It is odd when I think back on it.  I know that for a large portion of my childhood, my Dad traveled for work.  He wasn’t in the oilfield like my husband, but he did have a sales job.  Every week on Sunday or Monday he would leave and be back in time for the […]

What Working on the Texas/Mexico Border is Really Like

I verified that the pistol loaded with hollow points and stun gun/flashlight was still in his truck.  These were the questions I asked my husband every day while he worked on the border of Texas and Mexico as an engineer in the oilfield.  Since we live in Austin, I was initially naive about what was […]

Why Low Gas Prices Aren’t a Good Thing

There are two types of people in this world, those who love low gas prices, and those who see the benefit of a strong energy sector and higher oil prices. As an oilfield wife, my husband’s job has been at risk ever since prices began tumbling.  Everyone working in this industry has been laid off […]

Disconnected

It happened from both sides, the disconnection from others once we settled into oilfield life.  At some point I looked up and realized that we didn’t have as many friends as we used to.  We didn’t get the plethora of invites to holiday parties like we once did in our pre-oilfield days.  Sometimes I feel […]

Dear 2016

Dear 2016, Might I ask you a favor?  Well, I’m going to go ahead and ask for it anyway whether you like it or not.  It is actually going to be several favors, some more important than others. Can we have some stability in oil and gas right now?  I would love for oil prices […]

Make-Ahead and Freezer-Friendly Meals

We make a lot of meals ahead of time in our house.  Oilman makes big batches for hitches.  I typically will make a meal and freeze leftovers in individual containers because I’m cooking for one while he is away.  Freezing allows me to not have to eat leftovers every single day for a solid week. […]

Love and Christmas

I have always loved Christmas.  As I child, I would start waking my parents up at 3 AM to see if it was time to see what  Santa had brought.  They would finally give in about 4:30 or 5 AM.  Still to this day, the Christmas season makes me incredibly happy. As of this moment, […]

Brutiful

I looked at the test waiting for results.  The words flashed up on the screen, “NOT PREGNANT”.  Sigh.  I knew then that our second fertility treatment (a medicated IUI) had not been successful.  Our first fertility treatment had ended in miscarriage.  I started to cry.  Why does getting pregnant have to be so hard for […]
